I've watched this movie (and just about every other Pokémon movie) a thousand times. And surprisingly never did I once think that Ash displayed a rather agressive side of him.
Little Tori Lund in the movie was afraid of Pokémon due to a traumatic accident he had some years back. He and Ash first met when Ash was headed to the Battle Tower; he asked little Tori for directions. Pikachu's always with Ash, and Tori is afraid of Pokémon, so he sort of ran away from Ash.
And since then, Ash had been following him around like a little puppy, and I was sitting there staring at my televison screen like...
